Paraguay Permanent Residence Program

Paraguay is a landlocked country located in the heart of South America, bordered by Brazil to the east and Argentina to the southwest. The country has a population of around 6.11 million people. Paraguay was previously under Spanish colonial rule, so its population is predominantly composed of Spanish descendants, indigenous Guarani people, and individuals of mixed European and Indigenous ancestry. The capital city of Asuncion is Paraguay’s largest city. Asuncion is a vibrant, economically prosperous city that blends modern influences with its colonial-era heritage. According to Law 978 enacted on June 27, 1996, and subsequent regulations, Paraguay’s “National Constitution” contains provisions that facilitate the immigration of foreign nationals. Under the domestic legal framework, “permanent residents” are granted the same rights and obligations as Paraguayan citizens.Additionally, Paraguay is one of the countries who has a bilateral treaty with the United States, which allows Paraguayan citizens to apply for the E-2 Investor Visa to the United States. E-2 visa holders can reside in the U.S., enroll their children in American schools, and enable their spouses to work. Obtaining Paraguayan citizenship can therefore serve as a convenient pathway for establishing residence in the United States.
